Please base your answer on the following that we always look for in Chinese food: authenticity, taste, variety, and value. We are especially fond of "Hong Kong style food." Locations within the city that are popular with Chinatown locals would also influence our decision. Thanks.

I'm not crazy about chinese food, but there are a couple I like:

1. R & G Lounge. 631 Kearny St (a block or so away from Grant St.) I've been there 3 times, the clientele were 90% Asian (Chinese?) each time. They have a huge menu with a lot of variety and reasonable prices.

2. I just found out harbor village closed... I went to Empress of China for a wedding banquet, the food was great. It is probably expensive though. It's on Grant St.

I also went to a Red Egg & Ginger Party at Far East on 631 Grant St. in Chinatown. I thought the food was okay, nothing special. Maybe that's a sign that it was authentic (i.e. I don't know any better).

Hope this helps.

My favorite Chinese Cuisine restaurant in the city would have to be Yuet Lee's, on Broadway and Stockton. Love it because of the high quality of the food, value is not bad and I can still go out to North Beach afterwards. Very popular with locals living within Chinatown. For a spicy treat, R&G Lounge gives my palate the sting it craves once in a while...okay, the sting my palate always craves. Location is on Kearny, near Clay. Hunan Home's is a must for lunch. The only thing I don't like about it is how crownded it gets.

Koi Palace in Daly City
Rated the best Dim Sum in the San Francisco Bay area. Get there very very early to get a seat or prepare for a long wait. Usually I am the only one speaking English in there.
