Looking for an early 1990's version of Stormy Weather song?

I don't know the artist, but the distinguishing feature of this version was the sound of steps over fall leaves both at the beginning and end of the song, and a soft drum beat accompanying the chorus line. It's an all time favorite of mine so I'd greatly appreciate any clues.

Is it by Patty Griffin? I'm not sure if her version is newer or not ...
