The creator brought his young son Christopher to the zoo to see the bears (true it was in the '40s somewhere in Canada). The boy said something like, "Dad, let's call that one Winnie-The-Pooh". The father didn't really know what the boy meant, but he kept it and used the name for the character in his books. There is no such thing as a "Pooh Bear", it's just the make-believe nickname that the other characters have for the main character, and this name/phrase was created by a 4- or 5-year-old.

Winnie the pooh is actually a Brown bear he was named after a famous bear in the 40's I believe any way they only say he's a pooh bear cause it fits the song he is really a brown bear

He isnt technically a "pooh bear" FRom what I heard Winnie is supposed to be a Kinkaju( honey bear) hence why he likes honey. Pooh is just the name that the creater came up with. Although some people call kinkajus Pooh bears because of it.

My grandmother was called by her middle name since she was a young adult.
Pooh Bear is just a cute short easily recognizable nick name for Winne The Pooh.
