as it's sad above, using partition it's easier to manage ur data. u definetlly know where ur data is placed.
it'll help if u need to backup some certain folder(OS).
As for me i'm haveing 3 partitions :
1) C - OS and program files
2) D - data, pictures, music etc
3) E - backup
that's my vision of organizing PC.

Without a partition the harddrive will not work. Now if you are talking about partitioning the hard drive onto various drives, well unless the drive is pretty huge 300 gigs or more, I would not recommend. Too many drive letters to worry about. After partitioning a drive, you format the drive, than you load Windows.

So that if you ever have to reinstall Windows, your data (which you should then store on the other paritition) is safe and you can just format C: and reinstall.

Partitioning is one method of organization. Many people do this. Many others don't.

for blocking viruses in other drive (for donot distribute at all of your hard)
for classifing your datas.
