Mountains every time, nice clean air and not too hot. Too many 'beautiful' people on the beaches..

Defintely the beach. I've lived in the country, in the city, in the northeast, in the southeast, in the mountains, and by the ocean. Whether you prefer the beach or mountains is all personal preference, like asking someone what their favorite color is and why. After living in the mountains, I've realized how much i hate it. Compared to being at the ocean, the mountains are dark, secluded to the point of it being creepy, and I'm not a fan of pine trees. I like large, sunny, open expanses with endless views. You don't get that when mountains are blocking your view. I'm also a fan of the sun. There is no better place to enjoy the sun than at the beach! Pack a picnic, beach umbrella, a good book, bring a friend or two, and make a day at the beach! There's a reason why the generic image of paradise involves the ocean...because it's gorgeous!

If I'm going sun bathing or swimming I tend to prefer the beach - If I'm going climbing or skiing, or want a breath-taking view, mountains work best for me.
But if your asking for preference of beach holiday over mountain climbing, it's got to be the beach.
Ideally, have the best of both worlds and find a sandy beach at the bottom of a mountain range

The most beautiful beaches in the world are minutes away from some of the oldest and most beautiful mountains in the world, covered with ancient tropical rainforests. This is in Khao Lak, Thailand, the hardest hit area in the '04 tsunami. Visit the beaches, the mountains, the jungles, the people. Visit Thailand for the best vacation of your life.

I prefer the beach because I don't like bugs and other creepy things that lurk in the mountains.

Both. I usually go to a lovely beach in a town called Luquillo. After a while, I go to the mountains, to cool myself in the rain forest called El Yunque. Thats an advantage of living on an island.

The beach. Maybe because I'm a pisces. I can't swim, but I'm always drawn to water. I love the warm breezes off of Lake Michigan in the summertime as well as the tropical salty air of the Atlantic Coast.
"..the salt air it ain't thin, it'll stick right to your skin and make you feel fine...makes you feel fine. And I wanna be there. Wanna go back down and get high by the sea there. With a tin cup for a chalice , fill it up with good red wine and I'm a-chewin' on a honeysuckle vine..." (Jimmy Buffett "Tin Cup Chalice")

Beach. The relaxing cool water, the warm sand, the lack of clothing.
