I guess that all depends on what your definition of "healthy" is.

When you have an orgasm your body releases certain chemicals that have a specific effect on your body that is beneficial.

For example, if you are in a monogamous relationship it can lead to closer feelings. For men there is a release of tension. Women have a much more complex response to orgasm as the mental connection to arousal is not "simply" visual as in men.

I bring this up because for most people the main goal of masturbation is orgasm. Now if you have trouble reaching orgasm with a partner, masturbation is a very effective tool to learn what your body responds to. Thus as a part of a sexual relationship it is VERY healthy.

If you find yourself masturbating to the exclusion of interpersonal relationships then it is unhealthy in a psychological way. Unless you do it too much and cause chafing I have never heard of any physiological harm.

Whoever said it's better than the real thing needs to get a different partner. It is healthy and VERY beneficial. Many women, for some reason, feel ashamed of it but should embrace it! Do it as often as you like, it's good for you!

Yes it is a very healty and very normal thing to do. In fact it is a good idea to be in touch and in tune with your own body. You do need to make sure you are not doing it all the time. And if you are watching like porn or anything with it that needs to stay within limitations too. All I am saying is do everything but within a reasonable amount. Dont go over board

It releases dopamine in your brain which elevates your mood, it increases your heart rate and gives you a bit of a cardio-pulmonary work out, it exercises all of your glands and muscles in your vulva and vagina, making everything tighter, more well toned and keeping things functioning properly. It relieves cramps during menstruation. It teaches you about your body and how it works. I am sure that it does a lot of other great things as well.

If you don’t masturbate, you are depriving yourself of a LOT of benefits.

Masturbating effects our health in a variety of beneficial ways – not masturbating is what could be harmful.

Most definitely. It helps you relieve stress as well as really find out what makes you feel good, so you can tell your partner and your love life can improve.
