If you have an infection you need an antibiotic. Drinking cranberry juice just helps change the acidity of your urine. Your doctor may give you phenazopyridine which helps with the burning and the continual urge to pee. Do not let it go. Seek medical attention.

The infection causes your urine to crystalize and those crystals tear at the skin when you pee and cause the burning. You can drink lots and lots of water which may help wash the bacteria crystals out and also clean the torn skin. If you are trying to self treat, the cranberries help to change the ph of the urine so that the bacteria is harder to grow. However, the sugar in the juice feeds it, so I would go with a cranberry pill instead. You can also get an over the counter pain remedy like uristat or AZOStandard that will help. However, realize that this is simply masking the pain and not curing the infection. If the water and cranberry juice do not work within a day, you need to get antibiotics. If you let it progress, it can cause damage to your kidneys. I would try to stay away from any caffiene or sugar while you are fighting the urinary tract infection. Make sure that the entire area is super super clean. Do not take a bath. This can help the bacteria get further into your system and also provides a nice warm environment for it to grow. As a preventative measure, wear cotton underwear and try to pee to keep the area clean after intercourse.
Sorry that you are dealing with it - there is nothing worse. Ugh!

I've heard that lots of liquids helps. Especially Cranberry juice! But make sure it's 100% Cranberry Juice, and not Cranberry Cocktail. If you feel any sharper pains in your sides, it may have spread into a kidney infection and you'll need to see a doctor! Take care!

Bacteria getting into your urethra, and then into your bladder is the primary cause of UTI’s. This commonly happens during sex due to the forceful thrusting, and the introduction of foreign bacteria. To prevent this, make sure you pee shortly after sex.
Any source of bacteria that can find it’s way into your bladder can cause a UTI. Another common cause is wearing panties – in fact some girls who have a lot of trouble with UTI’s are not able to wear panties at all.

You need antibiotics from your doctor. The symptoms may go away, but if you do not kill the bacteria with antibiotics than the infection could go dormant, or travel into your kidneys and make you very sick.

D-Mannose; look for it in Health Food Stores. Works without antibiotic's.This is a great product! A friend told me about it and this works. This is the correct spelling. This is said to be a complete cure. Ask your doctor about this.
