They are all steel belted radials unless you are racing on slicks. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But I think that's accurate.

Automakers install radial tires universally nowadays mainly because they DO help get better fuel mileage as there is less rolling resistance and therefore less friction- as long as properly inflated- and they usually are made of a higher quality rubber compound. Rolling resistance and friction are a few of the enemies of good fuel mileage; weight and aerodynamic styling being primary.

Michelin was the first successful radial tire maker, and I think even invented the radial passenger car tire, can't remember with certainty but I feel that is correct (so the French DID do something right). Bias ply tires give less miles per gallon, and for the last 25 yrs or so and have fallen out of favor with automakers.

Some older cars will not handle properly with radials, so be sure your car is designed to run radial tires if it is early 1970's or older. Years earlier nylon tires were the norm- thank God they are not now as they would have a thump! until they warmed up after sitting over night.

Spot on, the steel belt is in all but the best race tyres, to give the tyre its rigidity, the main adverse effects to fuel economy are harsh driving (hard on the pedel then on the brakes) and too much weight in the car. Dont carry cycles or topboxes either, theyll cost ya!

Tire have come a long was since the hard rubber tires of the past.
Todays tires are made to not only last a lot longer then they did but also give better gas milage.
This is why the car people have and say that the tires you have on the car are the right ones for your car.
That is why it has the size it does. The cars are tested with not just a tire but what tire works best .

Actually, steel-belted Radial tyres are lighter in weight than Bias-Ply tyres, so your fuel economy is better, not worse.

on average road conditions a radial tire will give better results than a biased ply tire. with the steel belt inserted in the sidewalls and tread the radial tire is much firmer and thus has less rolling resistance.

No. I'm sure that one advantage of steel belted radials is better gas mileage than the old bias belted tires of the 1970s.
