"If the shoe fits, wear it" basically means that if something fits you, accept it. For example, if someone says you are picky and you are, just accept it.

"If something belongs or pertains to you, accept it. This proverb first appeared as “if the cap fits,” which may have referred to a fool’s cap. The later version has become more common and is associated with the glass slipper in the fairy tale, “Cinderella.”"

When this phrase is used, normally a person's trait or characteristics have been described in an undesirable way and the person may be uncomfortable with the attention to that trait or trying to deny the trait. However the trait is true or the characteristic is accurate and those around say, "If the shoe fits..." and lots of times the "wear it." part is assumed.

It means, You may not think so, or you may not want it to be true, but it is and we all think so, so you must accept it.

Fortunately people can change and this revelation for the person may be the turning point that makes them see the need for a change.

The saying goes: "If the shoe fits...wear it." This means that if something fits your circumstances, then apply it to yourself.
