Ok to be totally honest, I don't like "American" cars all that much anyways, I prefer my german luxuries... however I have owned a few Fords and a Few GM products. I do have to say that my GM products seemed higher all over quality. Some of the Fords LOOKED nicer however my GM's had a more solid and logical feel. My GM's ate brake pads however I didn't have other troubles with them... and pads on a GM are cheap to replace anyways. In general, do you agree with me?

Plus, many Fords now are actually made with Mazda parts! I was never a fan of Mazda to begin with.

I'd like to defend the domestic product.
You have a right to buy whatever you want,
but those dollars make no mistake go to a foreign land.
The latest J.D. power surveys put some of GM and Ford's
products well up the chain. The fusion, milan, and zephyr
rated quite high. Generally, I think GM is ahead of Ford
in overall quality.

The differences are many, there are also many categories. When it comes to trucks Ford usually out does the Chevy. When it comes to an affordable GP qualified only Chevy makes one, the Corvette. Fords new muscle car is Mustang and Chevy has no competitor. Luxury is a toss up if you include all GM lines particularly the Cadillac. GM also outshines in the sport luxury with there sport Cadillac. Fords Lincoln has a better limo conversion with there Town Car line. Economy is going to have to be buyer preference and options. The ford mid size usually has a better resale value and has a slightly higher safety rating. The Chevy SUV line is more diverse than the ford although Ford's SUV line draws from there superior truck line. I personally like the Dodge Chrysler products except for their SUV line that is Jeep bases. I also prefer the Ford full size van line The Econoline which is my current everyday driver. Chevy seems to do better in the NASCAR circuit but this must have considerations made due to the number of cars each manufacture sponsor's and of course the team and driver. Ford also has a diverse product line up such as Mazda and Jaguar co produced vehicles. There it is from my point of view I hope this gives you some help.

The GM products usually will have a little more refined feel to them than the Fords which are usually aimed it seems for more function than feel.
Each maker has it's pluses and minuses, I have owned both and other than a personal dislike of the look of a Chevrolet pickup currently. I actually like what is being produced currently.
Mazda barely makes part for Ford.. Depends upon the carline however.... Actually a Former GM part line is making parts for Fords now... Might of heard of them...... Dephi? The same people making electrical parts for GM makes them for Fords now...
German luxuries need to have a more refined feel or people would stop buying them in 20 seconds...
I will say personally, other than someof the new comers on the market from Asia, that overall quality is up across all car lines... but I do find that American cars will break slowly where you are paying for repairs over the life of the car compared to asian and european cars which seem to hit you in one falling all of a sudden.
BTW heard a MB transmission is $4500 and you have to await on it to be shipped in.. A transmission for a Ford or Chevy is usually $2500

GM Makes great vehicles, with your brakes you should buy a higher grade brake pad, they cost a little more but will improve your stopping performance and last longer. Get your brake pads from Auto Zone.
Ford also makes good vehicles, but with most Fords that I have owned I was not too impressed, and usually ended up having a lot of maintenance problems.
All of the Chevy and GM vehicles that I have owned I have nearly zero inicidents, the one incident that I had was minor, but the dealership corrected it immediately.
I am a proud GM and Chevrolet owner, and I don't expect to ever buy anything else again.

When it comes to safety, I'll stick with the Ford Taurus. We had a front end wreck, drove it everywhere for a week, took it to the dealer found out the wreck totaled it. What other car can you drive totaled?
