I promised myself I would never fall out of the musical loop, but as Ive gotten older I find myself doing what my parents did and listen to what I used to like in my early 20's! It seems most of the popular stuff is teen crap ( Paris Hilton) or alot of hip hop. Im sometimes in the mood for R & B but not all the time. I wonder if it will make a full turn and go back to what I listened to which was what they now call " Adult Alternative". Sighhh, it blows getting old lol

Such awesome answers guys! thanks! Im glad Im not alone. I guess I miss the time when I couldnt wait to buy a new cd and listen to it till I dropped lol. My husbands a musician and has a recording studio and his stuff is great. I guess I should enjoy what I have at home and just listen to his stuff ;) I bet as my boys get older ( they are 6 and 9 ) I will get into the new stuff as I will have no choice but to listen to it. Thanks again for all the wonderful answers!

I agree with you a little bit. I'm a very eclectic person and I love ALL sorts of music, except country. I just can't do it. But here's my opinion of most of today's music genres:
Hip Hop- sucks, and that pains me to say because I love GOOD hip hop. But all of it sounds the same, and lately the music has sucked. It used to be that you could overlook crappy lyrics if the music was good, but not anymore....
Pop- sucks worse. How many teenage girls are there that can't sing? From the looks of MTV, lots.
Rock- has stunk for a while. Nu-Metal is dead, EMO makes me want to punch someone, Metal is creepy. The only one's representing are retro bands like Jet or Franz Ferdinand- the guys that emulate older rock bands. But even they miss the mark because a lot of classic rock bands are based in the blues (Hendrix, the Stones), and these guys just copy old rock.
R & B- ZZZZZzzzz.....all produced by hip-hop producers, so it all sounds the same.
There are some good songs out there now. You just can't buy CD's anymore because most of them suck. Thank god for I-Pods.

There are still some great new modern bands around at the moment, I guess you just have to look beyond the charts away from all that pop crap. Bands such as System Of A Down and Muse.
But as good s they are Led Zep, Gnr and Hendrix always find their way back onto my hi-fi time and time again.

Corrie, I agree with you 100%. Musically speaking, we have become our parents. Although you have to admit the Beatles and other singers/groups from the "old days" never sang (if you can call it that) the sexually explicit lyrics like they do today.
I went through my country phase a number of years ago and today's country sounds like - crap! For the most part, it all sounds the same and if I have it on in the car while I'm driving, it's sure to put me to sleep. Very few artists sing up-tempo songs.
So....I'm very thankful for the presence of cd and tape players in cars - I just bought a new one and have both - and now I can listen to music where you could understand the words and didn't have to worry about putting an "x" rating on them!
And to the person who said they'd never drink coffee - you mean there are two of us in the world?

I'm in the same situation. I totally love music SOO much, but just don't listen anymore. I used to listen all the time it seemed and even today I have almost 1,000 cd's that I never listen to :/ Like once a month I'll go thru my cd's trying to find something I want to hear and I can't find anything, and I have everything from the '70 to '06 (I still collect, I guess its a compulsion). So I end up listening to Selena or Sarah Brightman or like you, what I listened to during the late 80's. I really wish I could just get lost in it like I used to. ps if you like R&B try listening to Diane Schuur (she's more Jazz) but very fun to listen to.

OMG, I can relate! I too promised myself if I ever drank coffee or stopped listening to new music that I would be officially old. I still don't drink coffee, but the music today is crap. It is also nasty. I am all for sex, but I hate it when a song plays, with EXPLICIT sexual lyrics and my ten year old is trying to sing along. It takes me five minutes to figure out what they are talking about before I gasp and turn it off. I would rather 50 cent not take me to his candy shop.

I don't agree with you that it blows getting old. You find the music you like, why do you have to keep up with everything just because it's new. I'm 37 and I find there's lots of new music I can totally relate to, but there's lots of crap too. I never liked rap or hip hop or grunge or "heavy metal" (oooh, that dates me) anyway, so why should I now- and Paris Hilton?! I'm sure there's a lot of kids too who think she's just a self serving weenie who buys fame with her daddy's money.

You aren't alone, Corrie. I'm right there with ya. Only it's just not with the music for me. It's also with the stars of Hollywood and t.v. I never thought the day would come when I couldn't keep up with Hollywood and music. I have to say though, that now I have a tolerance for country music that I never had when I was young.
I am turning into my parents! HELP

i'm 31 and i am so on board with you! i'm back to listening to Nirvana, Oasis, etc. (90's alternative rock). the stuff out now is so repetitious it makes me sick! everything now seems so fake; music industry crap.
i've been listening to the Classic Rock stations, also. the 60's & 70's is really where it's at... when music was really music! i guess it just comes with age.
great question, by the way!

Put me in that same line you're standing in. I'm 54 and most of what is on the radio, I do not relate to either!!!! I still listen to the 50's, 60's and 70's and 80's.

It's not the fact that I can't relate to it, it's the fact that none of it is really that good. I'm 36 and love music but I haven't heard any "new" music that I'm dying to go out and buy. So I stick to what I know I like and if something new comes along great if not there is plenty out there to keep me happy.
