Dark skin is indigenous to africa.
Light skin is indigenous to northern europe.
Basically the difference is where the person's ancestors were from. There are also sometimes cultural differences because historically (for the last 500 years or so) black people have been segregated from white people. Only in the last 50 years or so has this ended. So another difference is the opportunities that the people's ancestors had. For example black people were slaves for the first few hundred years. They were not allowed to go to school, choose their own jobs or learn to read or even keep their families together. It was a very bad situation. Most of that is better now but the cultures have not recovered from the inequality. It is pretty much historical baggage that is the difference.

There are many difference in the two races, and the answers here just saying its skin color show the ignorance on the topic. A classic example is that bone density on blacks is much higher than whites. I know this because I have been told X-ray techs have to use more power to get an accurate xray of a black person. With 2 seconds of research, I found documented proof of this from the University of Washington (See the link below) Blacks get different diseases than whites too. I am not going to comment on the IQ studies of blacks and whites because it causes too much controversy...

Most black people are of a darker complexion that most white people. We have thicker hair which is much harder to manage. We come from a different cultural background. Other than the way we look there really isnt much of a difference between us. We do the same things as white people usually just in our own way. Most of the stereotypes you here are not always true. Not all black people use slang or ebonyx just like not all white people go tanning. Not all black people eat "soul food" just like not all white people smell like wet dog when they get wet. Not all black people are poor just like not all white people are rich. Those are just a couple things I can think of. Hope it helps : )

Black people have darker skin than white people. This is because they have more melanin from the thousands of years of living in an enviroment with a lot of sunlight. Because of more melanin they are more likely to have brown or black hair (no blonde black people) and brown eyes. The hair is also of a different texture than other races. It is not as straight or smooth as Asians or whites and has a tighter curl than Arabic peoples. Those are the physical differences.
There are differnces in black culture as to white culture in America. In black culture extended family and religion (usually Christianity) are very important. There are certain foods and sayings as well as words that are more a part of black culture than white culture.
As for me, I am black. And I don't like being called an 'African American.' But that is just me and my sis. I think most ppl like it.

skin color,
I think the concept of the difference between them is a mindset, people expect them to be so different that it causes a mindset against them. I am white and was raised with black people, we were best friends, and then when I moved to the south, it was a whole new world, I was made fun of for being friends with them. I think this is sooo wrong, we are all on this world together, we need to get along.
Why do the black people get such a bad wrap?? It isn't like they blame crime on hispanics, or chinese, japanese, and there are plenty of them here too. I think we all need to grow up and accept each other.

Actually there is no difference. Skin tone is like fingerprints, everyone is slightly different. Since that's the case, there is no black and white, but merely different shades of human.
As far as so-called cultural differences outlined, like 'slang', it's well known that there are plenty of African Americans who speak cultured British English in high society circles, and plenty of Caucasians who speak rap slang. Again, it's not an indicator.
Physical differences attributable to genes (such as growth rates, death rates, disease susceptibility, etc.) are the only thing that can really be called differences based on race. And those are often exaggerated and stereotyped.
The rest of the differences aren't racial, they're socio-cultural, a product of environment, ancestry, and belief systems in localized areas.

Whats the difference between white, black, yellow and red skin? None! They are all human beings with the same basic wants, desires and only human beings care about the color of the skin.

There is little but some science here. For example, blacks and whites have shown some propensity to different diseases. However, color does not always demonstrate which genetic subset someone belongs to, so that's a dicey and controversial area at best.
Also, black and white can often be referring more to the culture of a person rather than the specific color of a person. Again though, defining exactly what black culture and white culture might be is dicey and controversial.

The physical difference is the color of their skin. Cultures can vary based on where they are from, but that is the same for different white people, or different dark-skinned people. If there was no such thing as racism, then blacks and white would have evolved in exactly the same way.

Aside from the obvious, the differences have to do with culture. There are differences between white people in the US and in Europe, just as there are differences between black people in the US and Africa.
