The best operating system depends on your application. If i were a video/photo editor (as in a job or major hobby) I would probably go with a Mac. Macs handle these tasks very efficiently compared to a PC.
As a gamer I enjoy windows because of it's widespread use by game makers. Most games that are on PC aren't on Mac, there's a few, but the selectio nis quite limited in comparison, just go to CompUSA and look for yourself.

Depends what the application you want to use it for is. And how good you are with computers. There's no one OS that's the best for every situation. If you're a novice user and want to easy create and share movie, music, and photos, then the new Mac is perfect. Extremely advanced users and developers often choose to use a Unix distribution.

That all depends on your likes and the type of computer your talking about, PC or mac. If your asking for one that doesn't have a lot of security issues the OS X Tiger for mac computers is the best.

If you ask me.. I would rather say MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP SP2 .. bcos of itz user friendly nature and easy to use interface and itz considerable security
Again, BEST as in .. "in what sense" .. do you want best is User friendly-ness and not care about security
or are you worried about security more and not other features
The one OS which is considered real STABLE are Apple's MAC .. MAC OSX , you need to have special hardware for those.
So i would suggest Windows Xp Sp2
