Fireworks!!!!

I think my favorite thing has to be a day out of the kitchen! I sit and have a beer while the men cook! LOL! Also there is NO prep work for 4th of July. Like Christmas where you run around crazy for 30 days and its all over in an hour (wait thats not true...then you get to go cook all day...then clean the kitchen!) Even Easter and Valentines Day involve work now-a-days!
Besides that we always go out for the fireworks and everyone is in their red, white and blue t-shirts (usually with a flag in them - can we say Old Navy $5 T's), the kids eat hot dogs and watermelon and run around until the fireworks and by that time they are ready to drop! We all lay on a blanket (even my big/bad teenager lol) and watch the fireworks together, then the kids fall asleep in the car on the way home and we pick them up and put them in bed dirt and all!!!!

The best part for me is that for one short day, in our own little neighborhoods, there are no lefties or rightwingers. There are no pro or anti anything.

For one short day, I can suck up all my own opinions, and proudly stand next to all my neighbors and appreciate them as my fellow countrymen.

I have 364 days to piss and moan about how the country is going to heck in a handbasket, but one day a year I hope I can honor my fellow citizens just for being day to day Americans.

When all is said and done, we're all in this together, whether we get along or not.

Now pass me a beer, fire up the grill, let the sober guy handle the fireworks, and lets take a moment to remember those who have served our country.
