I tried to open a file chose to choose from list instead of internet now every thing opens to notepad want to?

Question

i chlose from list instead of using internet to open some thing from a link and now every thing opens to notepad and i cant read what it says but now EVERYTHING opens to notepad and i cant read it. this is very important that i fix this!!! please help me

i may need to add that this was some thing i tried to open up to read on an internet site its not a file that i saved. so i guess i need to change my default program???

Ive tried every thing you're telling me and its not working.

To change the program that opens a file
1.
Open My Documents

If the file you want is not located in My Documents or its subfolders, use Search to find it. To open Search, click Start, and then click Search.

Right-click the file you want to open in a different program, and then click Properties.

On the General tab, click Change.

Click the name of the program in which you want the file to open.

• To open My Documents, click Start, and then click My Documents.

• This change affects all files that have the same file name extension as the file you selected. For example, if you change the program that opens a .jpg file, all .jpg files will open in this program.

• You can also change the program that opens a file by right-clicking the file, clicking Open With, and then clicking the program name. If the program you want is not displayed, click Browse.

ok if you are not able to open up as the people have said try out the following steps. As i dont know your system configuration i will give you a general steps.

1. First higlight the file that you are using.
2. Then right click on that file.
3. There you will see "open with" command.
4. If that is not visible then go to the first step again and right click while pressing down the shift key.
5. Then i guess you will be able to see the "open with" command.
6. Then when you take your pointer over that line you will be able to see some set of applications using which you can open the file. at the last you can choose program.
7. Then a dialoge box will get opened in which a set of application that are installed in your system will be displayed.
8. Select the application using which you want to open the file.
9. If you carefully look you will see a check box below the text area saying "always open the selected program to open this file".
10. check the box and press ok.

now when ever you open the file it will not be opened using notepad but it will open by the application that you have specified.

well what you have done "you have made notepad as the default application to open this file". you actually got to specify what file it is and it opens in which application


however to open that file in another application other than notepad.. Right click file ~> Properties and there Click CHANGE and now chose the application in which this file opens

Go to any folder. You can just right click on the START menu and then go to explorer or go to MY COMPUTER. Then on top of the folder menu, go to TOOLS then FOLDER OPTIONS. Then click on File Type and you can set each one of your applications to whatever you want to open with.
