Go to a specialist tennis shop or ask a coach. The coach at my club lends demo rackets out and then she will order them in if you want one. Talk to the coach and they will recommend a racket to suit you swing type (i.e. a more powerful racket for a shorter swing style). The guys at the shops are very helpful and know their stuff so tell them you needs and they should accommodate. PWP near Wimbledon is great for this sort of thing.

I went to the pro shop at the local tennis club, and asked their advice. I described my level of play, how often I play, and so on, and the pro picked out 3-4 demo racquets for me to try. I played for about 30-45 minutes, switching back and forth between racquets, and picked the one I liked best. It cost me for the court time, but I feel I had a good range of racquets to pick from, and the one I picked suits me and my game.
