I would love to be able to vote for someone that I thought was intelligent, ethical and experienced but that never seems to be an option. Wouldn't anyone else vote based on this? If not why do people vote for candidates that obviously have none of these qualities (Republicans and Democrats). Is it one issue? what issue? Is it something else... what?

When someone worth voting for is running I will vote... I feel that our government in congress and the senate should not be paid. If they get paid it should only be a lower middle class pay...With no health insurance or retirement. That way they could be like the teachers, and EMS , Social Service workers, and ect. They would be in office because they want to help people and it not be for the money.

We can't break our social up-brings, if we could voting would take on a new shape. Besides that the system is setup for two parties a third party wouldn't have enough power to move the house or senate in any direction. I vote the way I vote knowing this small but simple fact.

The system has been setup and Republicans and Democrats wont let another parties get a foot hold.

It's been a long time since I've been able to vote for a candidate who I believe in. On the local and state level (in California at least), you can often tell that candidate X or candidate Y will win the office. I will often vote against a candidate by voting for the top opponant. I don't like voting thta way, but if I look at the choices and can't say "I would love to see so-and-so in office," I can at least usually say "There is NO way I want to see so-and-so in office."

I vote for the one I think will do the best for america, not for the party he or she represents. It just so happens that it usually turns out to be Republican over Democrat. In all honesty, I only know of one decent Democrat in Congress, so that narrows it down. Not to say all Republicans are good, because most of them ain't. But in a battle of the worst of two evils, right now the Dems are the worst, and until something changes I see no reason to vote for them.

because when a democrat is president things are better-tax cuts for everybody except millionares who make up 1 percent of population, programs for the poor, education programs for all children including children in rural areas, small towns and inner cities, peace, surplus (that alone should be reason for anyone), economy, jobs, respect around the world, good relations with other fforeign leaders, the enviornment, etc.the last two democrats accomplished this-carter clinton. the last three republicans didnt-bush 1 and 2, regean. also every positive programs was passed by fdr and johnson. social security, banking act, fair housing act, family medical leave act by clinton, civil rights act, miranda law, hud, etc.

I try to learn as much as I can about the candidates beforehand.

Then decide which ones represent my ideas best, or has the better plan to run things. Then, and only then, do I make a decision and hope things turn out.

unfortunately, I have been reduced to a one issue voter. My issue is Pro-choice. I WILL NOT VOTE for any candidate that is pro-life, no matter how qualified. Isn't that sad?
