Since the propellant for a supervolcano eruption is dissolved and compressed gas, and since releasing the pressure causes the runaway expansion that empties the entire lava chamber, it would seem that anything that tried to relieve the pressure would trigger the eruption. So if we knew that we had an eruption coming in a decade or so what could we do to prevent it?

It is a good bet that if someone did try to diffuse Yellowstone they would actually set off the super explosion instead. What happens when you poke a hole in a balloon? It explodes! That is what would happen, so no we can't diffuse Yellowstone.

No, natural forces cannot be prevented from occurring. When humans attempt to change the course of nature, worse things always result.
All you have to do is look at New Orleans, Louisiana. Industrialists and the Army Corp of Engineers just ruined (for want a much stronger word) the natural barriers to bear a major hurricane.
Look at the 3-gorge dam that China is completing. An earthquake is expected in that region some day (because of tetonic activity) and still they built the dam anyway (for the hydropower).

We don't know a damn about preventing eruptions. We can barely predict the events.

On top of that, the main volcanic gas is water vapor, and volcanic eruptions are also related to tectonic activity and magnetic activity.

The explosion of a volcano *is* the event that relieves pressure on the magma chamber.

The only thing you can do? Move away from Yellowstone.

If you know this about your MRI then that means your physician went over it with you and probably gave you the report. If you have questions about it then speak to your MD. They are the only ones who should be answering these questions.

No. I don't think it would be feasible and plus why would you want to miss the show? The explosion would be devastating, but an awesome thing to observe, if it didn't wipe out all existance.
