Keep nail polish remover with you and dip you finger tips in it every so often. It stays on your skin for awhile and when you go to put your fingers in your mouth to bite you will get that bitter taste in your mouth and quit. It worked for me. And take Biotin supplements to help your nails grow.

No matter how short they are now keep them nicely polished. You will be less likely to chew them if they are. Another thing that works is putting something on them that you don't like the taste of. For me that was pickle juice. As for how ong they will take to grow....go get yourself some good clear polish that is for weak nails that tend to chip. They also sell growth formulas and yes...they really work. Follow the directions, keep them out of your mouth and you should have a nice set of nails within a month. Also...there are vitamins and herbal suppliments that will help your nails grow and make them stronger. They also help your hair. Go to your local vitamin store and check it out. Explain what you want to the clerk and they will be able to help you. Oh...as an after thought....certain nail polish (usually the really cheap stuff) tends to make your nails weak resulting in breaks. Experiment to find the one that works best for you.

put on artificial nails and if they fall off replace them immediately before you have a chance to bite them. After 2-3 weeks you should have a bit of nail, then just keep them polished and the edges smooth so you don't start to pick at them. Try to paint them a very bright color, so you will notice in case you start to put them in your mouth again.
Worked for me. I quit at age 26 and have been a nailbiter all my life. good luck

Put nail polish on them now and if you chew them it will ruin them. Also you can try a strengthening nail polish that will help them grow faster.

Get your nails done. Thats what I did. Because the acrylic nails are no fun and to hard to bite on, it broke my habit, and I looked good.

I got rid of the nasty habit by getting a french manicure, you don't want to mess up what you spent good money on, so you won't bite your nails.
