your computer could be used as a source for others to download media from your computer, you should be able to see people who are connected to your files in limewire. Also limewire if set to can constantly scan your computer looking for new media, and would eat up some of your resourses.
Your media player should show up as an external hard drive under My Computer. You may be able to add your files that way, or look to the manufactors website of your media player for software that adds media to the player.
Good luck.

The best way is to download Ccleaner here http://bitly.com/UrALrK
Or you can go on Windows operating system locate the command prompt and go there to do the following:
Create a Recovery file of system and date it today.
Then begin by;
delete the 'Temp' folders..they have hidden subfolders so you need to set the attributes in order to bypass this. For each subfolder delete all cookies and rubbish left behnd after install-uninstalled programs. Do a 'dir' command to check your progress. Make sure the 'Temp' file is empty.
goto c:\windows\prefetch and delete everything in there..no exceptions
goto c:\windows folder and delete all the '$' files that have been installed by updates. They can all be succesfully deleted and just take up disk space.
Locate the Internet Temporary Files..Check to see how high the saving level is..some have it set at 30 days..but that stores faaaar tooo much data..though it slows down the system overal. Keep this to a minimum..suggest 2 or 5 at most.
Delete all 'cookies' all those you don't need.
Locate the windows directory and go through the folders you know and those you don't need. Check this once a week at least. Some programs will install under XP as NT and older systems where there is no check of systems weight.
Check to see that system files have not changed since last booting. Things like .ini files or .bat are important items.
Check for 'Hidden Directories' all over the disk...do this at the command prompt:
dir *.* /ah wil show these hidden directories
Check the 'dir' command for all parameters

The problem with limewire -
1 it installs itself into the start up programs when windows starts - this slows down your system - click start > run > type MSCONFIG > click on right hand tab (startup) - take the tick out of anything that says limewire - then click ok or apply and restart - this should speed it up some what
2nd - if you allow files to be transferd then this slows down your system - especially if you have got a low bandwidth internet connection
3rd ly and most important - always download and save
(DO not download and open - if you open it and it is malicious it may contain programs/exe files that will/may infect your system - some of these nasty little scripts are hard to scan for with spybot and antivirus etc - antivirus program do what they say on the tin - they scan things that maybe trying to install onto your registry before they harm you - if you open them you are virtually giving them permission - thus this may slow down your system)
Always SAVE then scan the file with your antivirus program -
if you follow these simple rules you should be ok

Ad aware and spybot are nowhere near enough.
Install Avast! antivirus, it has a p2p scanner.

If your Limewire account is popular your pc is struggling to keep up with demand. I wouldn't make my pc available 24/7.
I hope you are not running Limewire from an administrators account and that you have secured the folder so that people can't poke around elsewhere.
The person who suggested you reformat is cruelly suggesting you completely wipe your hard drive; you would lose your windows operating system, all your programs and all your downloads.
You could try defragmenting your hard drive, go to Start - Accessories - System Tools - Disc Defragmenter. Click Analyse, then ok, then Defragment.

However it only does that when i have limewire running. if your not downloading right click limewire and exit. as far as the songs you have downloaded already, if you go into the options menu in limewire (top right of screan) and go to 'downloads' this tells your computer where you want to send you downloaded songs. i have made a download folder for my collection. Good Luck

I am sure limewire contributes to the slow running of your computer, especially when people are downloaded songs from you.
There are things you can do to speed things up...
1. Run Defrag.
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter (using defrag is a way of tidying up things to put it simply, which makes your pc run more smootly).
2. Virus of course will slow down your pc, Run an updated virus scan.
Or Scan for Viruses online.
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
(trend micro is free and often shows up things other virus checkers miss).
3. http://security.symantec.com/ssc/home.asp?j=1&langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=PSFNESLHFEPGEVVSDUX
security check.
4. http://www.lavasoft.de/
adware free check.
5. do you have many programs running in your start up? this slows down your pc, have you programs starting up that you dont need such as winamp?
use MSCONFIG to disable running applications.
Start/Run
Type "msconfig" ENTER
Click "Startup" Tab
And uncheck the undesired processes.
Sometimes the culprit for a slow computer is a single program that's seized up and is using all your memory. If you can afford it you could upgrade your computer, this will make a big difference in your speed and think about purchasing more ram. (randam access memory).
If all this does not work you need to have your computer wiped clean and put all the programs on again at the very least.
Good luck!
In answer to your question regarding your songs, double click on my computer, then programs, then limewire and then go into your shared folder and select all the songs you want to copy, click on copy and paste them in another folder such as my music so if you want to remove limewire you won't lose your songs. When you open your media player you will have options to copy the songs from the folder.

limewire consumes great percentage of your internet download speed, but not drastically slows down your entire system. one piece of advice is to only start your limewire application whenever you feel like downloading something, don't let it be on windows startup programs; and configure it in the preferences to immediately shut down when you exit. and also minimize your uploads slots into 1 per person and 2 for maximum uploads.
check your RAM too, maybe you need an extra memory for running multiple applications.
good luck, cheers!

Exit Limewire while you are working on your computer. Open Limewire back up when your computer will just be sitting idle (while you are not using it). Seems to help my puter run better.

Limewire does make your computer slow. I also have it. If you delete it off of your computer, it will delete all the songs you've downloaded.

It could be limewire sending out. i.e. other users dowloading from you. Check the monitor, and outgoing transmissions. If it is this, then you can chang your profile to reduce the number allowed consequtively, or even disallow them altogether.
