I was sitting in my Junior High School English class with Miss Gerlach that morning in Kelowna Secondary School in British Columbia. Our Principal, Mr. Davidson suddenly came on the PA to announce that President John Kennedy had been shot while riding in a motorcade in Dallas, Texas and was in critical condition. About a half hour later we were sitting in home room waiting to be dismissed for lunch when he came back on the PA to announce that President Kennedy had died of his wounds. He was sobbing. Most in the class began to weep too. He announced that school would not resume for the rest of that Friday and we were free to go home for the day.

Although we were Canadian, John F. Kennedy had been an enormously popular president with Canadians as with most of the world. I remember I was glued to the TV the whole weekend and on Monday I faked having the flu so I could watch the funeral on TV as well.

Boy, its really a day that stands out in the mind even after all this time, like I think 9/11 will for the younger generation.

I was in high school and Phys. Ed. class was just wrapping up when an announcement came over the P.A. system there would be an all-school assembly at the end of the hour. I remember one of the other guys saying he had heard that Kennedy had been shot but we never really believed he had been killed.

Then, the news hit us when the principal made the announcement and told us all that school was dismissed.

I think I spent the weekend glued to the TV set watching it all over and over again. On Sunday morning, I had just turned to NBC when they switched over to the jail where they were transferring Oswald and saw him get shot. NBC was the only network present for that event.

My God, what a terrible time that was.

As much as I can't stand Bush, I hope the country never has to go through all that again, but we probably will. Right now,he's the only President elected in a year ending in a Zero that hasn't been the victim of an assassination attempt. But wait, he wasn't elected - guess that explains that!

I was in the 2nd grade attending elementary school in Dallas. We were in the film room and I overheard one teacher whisper to another teacher that Kennedy had been shot. We were told as a class after the film. Being in school in Dallas even in the 2nd grade his visit had been talked about in school. Even at 7 years old I felt and still feel the saddness of that day.

It was right after lunch. I was in my science class when my deskmate told me Kennedy had been shot (she went home for lunch). Then the principal came on the loud speaker and told the school and then about 15 minutes later came back on and said he had died.

We did nothing in science class that day. My math teacher acted like nothing had happened and just taught math. And then my English teacher who was a big Kennedy fan cried all through the class.

I was in Second Grade, and in Art Class. We were sent back early to our regular teacher, and she was crying as she told us the bad news.

My parents were too young at that point. They knew each other. I myself was not yet alive at that point though.
