I recently quit my job because after I had a discussion with my boss about life and what i was trying to get out of it. Pretty much saying i wanna be my own boss. And I told her i was starting a vending machine service I purchased a real nice candy machine and i asked if i could place it in at my work. It would help me cause i would b around it all day if anything were to happen I mean pretty much just use it as a 'test market'. and she pretty much just laughed me off basically told me it was a dumb idea. her reason for not letting me put it in there is it would cut into their candy selling. because one of the ladies in a office sells candy n chips and what not. she quote 'Yeah I could give you a chance but I dunno if I will' that was it. i was polite and told her thanks for her time and walked out of her office. the next week i didnt return to work. i just cant work for someone that dont care about me... now where do i go? and suggestions?

Friends and family are for caring. Jobs are business. You don't even have to like someone at work - you hope that the relationship will be civilized and professional. You boss is there make sure a job gets done in business. She has no duty to "care" about any of her/his employees. He/she does has legal guidelines to treat employees without harassment and discrimination.

I am sorry it didn't work out for you to put the vending machine in your former work. Did you offer her a cut of the revenue? It could have been a win win for both of you.

What do you mean, "now where do I do?" You go and get another job! What kind of question is that??

Sounds like your boss was suggesting she get a cut of the profits, which is actually reasonable. You should (and will) have to either pay "rent" for the space your machine takes up or a commission on sales, or a combination of both.

If you want to succeed in your business venture, you have to learn the art of negotiation. You should have asked your boss what her reservations were - maybe she didn't want to displace the other lady, but you could have suggested stocking your machine with stuff she doesn't sell. Or maybe she really doesn't want her employees running a side-business on her premises. You could have agreed not to "service" your machine during regular business hours - that you would come in early or use your lunch break to stock it, etc.

Instead, you took your "ball" and went home. Stop acting like a spoiled child and learn how to conduct business if you want to be a business(wo)man. Now, not only do you not have a place to put your machine, but you don't have a job to boot! It's not your boss' job to "care" about you in this respect. Her job is to "care" that you have the equipment you need to do your job efficiently and safely and to pay you a fair wage.

Take a deep breath and move on. Make a plan. Get another job. Pursue your dreams - and don't expect a free ride from anyone (i.e., taking up office space with your machine that the company derives no benefit from).

Get a clue! For you to succeed in any business, you need to realize that there will always be obstacles, and, business is business. The fact that you walked out and did not come back shows you basically lost (not saying you are a looser). You are in competition with the rest of the world, so my first suggestion is to go back to school. Your business skills are weak, you have a self-confidence issue, and your language skills are in short supply. For you to succeed in business, you need a plan. One that has provisions for short term failure and tough sells, such as your previous employer. School will help with these issues. Realize that what your boss did was not because of a personal vendetta towards you, rather the real world of business is business. Put yourself in your boss' shoes and read your question and see if you can see the short-comings of your business skills.

Yeah get over it. Personally I coudln't care less if my boss got taken out by a train, and I know he feels the same way about me. It's work buddy some are here to get a pay check and some are here to socialize. I'm here to get my work done and I don't need anyone to do that, especially a bhoss that 'cares' about me. any boss that cares about you will only sell you out when the time is right. At least your boss isn't two faced like all of mine have been.

Good place to put vending machines: fire stations, ambulance services. They work 24 hrs 7 days a week, and its hard to get food sometimes.
