I think moderate is a worse word then Liberal. You can never trust a moderate, you think they're on your side then stab you in the back. I personally dislike liberals because of the simple fact that they are reverse discriminative, they want everyone to live a happy equal life, which is communism, rather than earning their living. And don't even start with people being poor, people are not poor, they just spend more money then they have. Like my mom, we could live with our income, but she buys more than we can afford most of the time. So we are in dept.
Edit to reply to other post: Conservatives are no more close minded then a liberal. A liberal is just close minded to stupidity and immorality.

The word has been used as a negative label for a group of the far left fo the American political spectrum. It's original meaning and the ideals behind it should be returned to the Libertarian Party who actually uphold the original liberal principles: personal liberty and responsibility, small government, free market economy.
The same can actually be said for conservative. It is no longer what it was. More's the pity.

Being a Liberal is a GREAT thing. The religious right, neo-con rethugs want you to think that it isn't so that you feel ashamed of your political views and being a Democrat. The more people they can convince to feel this way, the more they will convince to stay away from the polls.
Liberals are broadminded, free-thinking and inclusive. They are tolerant of a wide range of lifestyles and cultures.
Conservatives are bigoted, close-minded, intolerant of anything and anyone who doesnt look like them, worship like them, and they all chant the same neo con spin feed to them thru FauxNews & Rush Druggie Limbaugh. Now is that something to be proud of?
Be proud to be a liberal. I have a bumpesticker that say "Jesus Is a Liberal" .

Good question. Some people don't like change. The fact is most people in the United States are moderates, than conservative, and last liberal. I am a moderate. I like slow change but anything to progressive worries me. People need time to adapt to new things or else there maybe riots in the streets.

Through effective marketing, the media has been able to redefine it by attaching it to a negative connotation. Of course, this has nothing to do with intelligent application, this is just a way of brainwashing- issues are reduced to labels. It is definitely a good thing to support social justice and civil liberties and human rights, so be proud because "universal truth is not measured in mass appeal."

It is sad that the nut cases have taken over the liberal movement.
The theory has been twisted to the extreme and there are many liberals that do not recognize their own party. I think too many consider extreme actions as an attention getter and lose sight of reality

Ha, there's the rub. If applied intelligently and based on moral principles. But that is NOT what liberalism in practice is. It is a destructive ideology, just like communism. Communis, in theory, sounds great and appealling. But liberalism, like it's close cousin Facism, is demented in its practice.
