I have a friend who is now on his third tour of duty in Iraq. He is really played out, emotionally, physically, mentally . . . i think what we are seeing is the end result of too few troops doing to much over too long a period. It happened toward the end in Nam (though admittedly circumstances were different) and I fear it is now happening in Iraq.

Some of our troops are conducting 'door to doors' 2 -3 times a day over a period of up to a year. Image what stress they are under, not to mention the IEDs which can hit you most any where at any time.

Obviously by the wording of your question you don't want to hear this. You want to believe it is some 'lying Iraqi'. All I can say is if you believe we are fighting for 'lying Iraqis' then it is time you raised your voice for an immediate withdrawal.

The investigations of these numerous incidents are being conducted in-house by US military investigators who. I believe, are desperately trying to maintain morale and discipline under increasingly difficult circumstances. They deserve our support, for the sake of all the troops who are doing their best to conduct themselves in an honorable manner.

I don't think there's ever been a war without atrocities - on both sides. That doesn't make it right. The world has tried to come up with rules of conduct for war - Geneva convention and Nuremburg trials. A gentlemanly war - coming to a neighborhood near you. Pardon me while I shoot you through the head - or excuse me for the dull knife while I hack off your head. Yeah, right!

Hard to say.

This guy confessed to the act, after a couple of his buddies were tortured and beheaded.

On the surface, the evidence looks pretty damning.
These so-called soldiers allegedly scoped out this woman for some time before she was raped, her body burned and three others shot to death.

Now, you tell me if he was guilty or not?

well just from skimming the story, it seems to me that those who reported the incident were fellow soldiers, not the Iraqi people. so i don't think "lies of the Iraqi people" is right. as for if i think he is guilty, to me it's the same as any criminal case: innocent until proven guilty. if evidence proves him guilty, he belongs in jail.

His own countrymen, men from his unit, not the Iraqis, ratted him out, and he confessed when confronted.

He should be shown as much mercy as he showed that woman and her relatives, including the 5 year old girl who he murdered; less, if possible.

Is it not up to me to decide guilt or innonence, I have no access to the evidence. But there have been many cases in the past where soldiers under stress and with conflicting orders and expections have commited war time atrocities.

He is in jail as a result of an investigation by the military, so apparently they believed the "lies".

He's a disturbed man. It's not up to me to decide his guilt or innocence.

Ever heard of vietnam? You never know, but I am pretty sure that just because the woman is from Iraq does not mean she has the sudden urge to yell, "Rape!" Guess what? No one's perfect. If he wanted to f*** someone, he should have stayed with his wife. I am not saying he did it, but I think it is extremely ignorant of you to judge someone based on nationality.

Only him and the other people who were present at the time know the absolute truth about what happened.
