A Koi is a carp. So is a goldfish.
Koi can cost as little as 2$ for an unculled baby or they can cost thousands of dollars for one fish. They have koi shows just like -well not just like- dog shows.
On average, a typical fish you can buy at a local dealer will cost 15-30 dollars for about an 8' fish. Upwards of $45-70 for larger fish.

This all depends on the size and quality. Koi from pet shops and garden centres will be low quality, small and cheap. Koi breed in Japan from specialist dealers are of high quality, and can grow to a metre long. These are obviously much more expensive and usually cost between £40 to £10,000. Show winning koi have been known to cost £60,000 or more! The average 20" koi should cost £50 a high quality one £500 or more depending on pattern and potential. Remember your koi can grow! Depends on size and color, for example the white ones with the red spot on their heads are harder to bread to specifications therefor they cost more.
Generaly they range anywhere from a couple of bucks for a 3-4 incher up into the hundreds for bigger fish...some can even cost up in the thousands....

Don't know how much they're worth, but have you ever seen them feed? It looks vicious! Throw some food into the pond and the whole school races to the surface. Scary!
