do an internet search for noise blocking or noise cancelling headphones. Remember that you get what you pay for. Bose makes the state of the art noise-cancellation headset, but it costs $300 and is never ever on sale. It's also kinda bulky which may account in part for its superior performance. Sharper Image sells some and I think Brookstone does too. Most electronics stores carry them. Forget about the $20 ear buds; they will not work for you.

Ear protection. They look like headphones but block sound. You can get them at any hardware store, or like Home Depot, Lowe's. They range from around 15 to as high as you want to go. I doubt that you need something to block out jet engines or generators so the cheap ones should work fine. The last entry said earplugs. They are easy to get at any drug store and can muffle a lot of sound. They also don't look as strange in a public place.

I think you're talking about noise-cancelling headsets...the ones you see being used probably have built-in radio communications, which I'm assuming you don't need. I know Bose makes high quality noise-cancelling headsets, but they'll be very expensive.
You could try checking out websites about hearing conservation or audiology to see if they can give you more information on what you're looking for.
Good luck!

Google "noise reduction headphones", click on images, and find the ones that you think you'd like the best. Click on the picture and it usually brings up the website and company that produces them. Good luck

ear muffs---not for cold weather...the kind that protects your hearing. they are hard plastic on the outside, soft foam padding to cover your ears. try your local hardware store. I bought my pair at a outdoor type store where I bought my lawn mower. (Tractor Supply, Andersons, Menards) We have 5 acres and it gets annoying listening to the mower while mowing it all. Hope this helps!!!

Foam ear plugs are much cheaper (usually a buck or two) & you can get 'em at your local pharmacy.
