All passwords can be hacked, some just take longer than others.

General rules for a great password (one that would take a long time to hack.) are:

Greater than 8 characters
Contain both Capital and lowercase letters
Contain at least two numbers
Contain at least two special characters (!@#$%^&*)
Make sure that passwords are not dictionary words.
Make sure that passwords are not easly guessable, (dont use your birthday, your girlfriends name, if you have a harley or something dont use sportster or something related.)

Thats the best you can do.

Also never give out your password. Rename the administrator account and try to never use it. Disable guest accounts on your computer. Create a user account for yourself and use that one for day to day operation.

The best that you can do as far as passwords go is to pick one that has a combination of capital and lower case letters. Also randomly insert numbers and funny characters if possible (such as ^&$) to throw him off as much as possible. Do NOT click "remember me" on anything while surfing in a web browser. Keep the password inside of your HEAD and not on paper. He cannot read your mind, only what is logged on your computer. Change the password as often as necessary to throw him off.

These steps will go a long way in securing your password. If all else fails, use a Linux Live CD, which is an alternative operating system that boots from a CD at startup. This will leave very few tracks on the machine that you are using and will make it immensely difficult for him to watch you.

He will probably install a keylogger on the machine if he gets desperate to try and capture your password. By using the Live CD to surf with, his Windows keylogger would be unable to detect your keystrokes on a Linux system because it is an entirely different OS! I would advise using the LiveCD method if it gets really bad.

A list of LiveCD's are available here:
http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php

Download the .iso image and burn it to a CD.
While your system is starting up (you know, with all the black screens and technical information) press F12.
This will launch the BIOS screen (it's blue)
Look for something that says "Boot from hardrive"
Move "Boot from Hardive" to second on the list and "Boot from CD" to first on the list
Restart the machine
Before restarting again, insert the CD with the .iso on it
Restart the machine again and linux will launch
*You will now be surfing in an area that will make it REALLY hard for your cousin snoop on
When you are done, take the CD out and turn the machine off
Keep the CD in a secure location, although nothing is saved on the disk

This is a way to keep your cousin out of your personal business.

How to pick a password other people won't be able to guess:

Do NOT pick a one word password. Some hackers will run a program that tries every word in the dictionary and will eventually figure your word out.

Do NOT use your birthday, address, social security number or anything like that.

Do NOT use your mother's maiden name.

Mixing numbers and letters can give you a password that is harder to guess.

Having a password that is part one language and part another language can make it harder to guess.

If you remember them, number combinations like a friend's phone number from many years ago or the combination for a lock you used to have can give you good passwords that are hard to guess.

Hacking is a little different, then a password protection in the login screen. But if you have your cousin living with you, why would you have a problem with him using your computer? It might be nice to have someone around to help you out with computer problems, or you jsut ask him, to ask you before he uses your computers.

As far as a password goes, go into your user account settings, and change to password, you both letter, numbers and symbols.

any password could be guessed, but if you want a good password you can do somethings. For example, use a compination of lower-case, upper-case, and numbers, making sure that the result has no semantic meaning (birthdays, anneverseries etc.) and that the characters are not similar to words. There are online tools available to help you generate such 'random' passwords. Something along the lines of hx7E3jpW That would be really hard to guess wouldn't it? Just don't forget it!

Don't set anything that he would guess. It is suggested, in situations like this, to use sentences that only make sense to you as passwords. The password can be as long as 128 characters.

Upper case letters (ABC)
Lower Case letters (def)
Numbers (123)
Special Characters (!@#)

Here is an example: w8n4Beer!

24 letters one with few numbers in between: he'll not pass it if you're using XP. Just don't let him install anything on your computer that would send your key strokes to his email.
