In my sophomore year i was diagnosed with a genetic disease that isn't life threating but it ruined my self confidence serverly because it made me feel as if i was an outsider on top of that i was new to the school my sophmore year and i was one of the only black people in a mostly white school so i completly felt like i didn't fit in due to all of this my grades droped to a 2.9gpa but by the time my junior year came around i got treatment for the disease and it hasn't relapsed since and i felt like i fitted in more because i made great friends at my new school i felt so much better that my gpa through my whole junior year was a 4.4gpa which is the top gpa you can get at my school so i was wondering do you thinhk that i can still get into a UC with my grades?

I'm sure you can! First of all, congratulations on having such a great GPA. Admissions boards won't look simply at your overall GPA, and you should be able to explain to them why your GPA was so low during your Sophomore year. A lot of schools will have you write an essay on something like a "life changing experience" and maybe you can use this essay as a means of explaining what you went through. If this isn't an option, I'd say you could still enclose a letter explaining your grades and what you went through.

Seriously, congratulations. You should be really proud of your success. Good luck in college!

Girlfriend, let me tell you.....I graduated high school with a 2.8 gpa! Now, I have a Master's Degree. It wasn't that I didn't apply myself in high school, I too had some personal issues to deal with. Life goes on. Even when I went to apply to graduate school, the director of the psych. program there told me that my GRE scores were bad, and he wasn't sure. I told him that those scores did not define who I was, and that I may not be the "brightest bulb in the pack," but I am a hard worker. Well, I got accepted and finished last year with a 3.6 gpa. My point is, life goes on, you have prevailed. You will undoubtedly be successful. Go girl!

You should probably just apply. They look at a lot of other things besides GPA. The SAT or ACT is usually more important but you have a great GPA so I don't know why you even asked this question.

Be prepared to explain all of this in an entrance essay to accompany your application. You shouldn't have any trouble if the rest of your years are higher to balance it out and make your point. Use extremely proper English and sentence construction to underscore your abilities.

Senior year was pretty fun. Less classes, perks of being a senior and it was the year I actually started making friends. So all in all, I enjoyed it pretty well. 2009-2010

Are you kidding? Of course, you can. Keep up the good work. You can always explain your sophomore grades, so don't worry about it.
