I would like to know how to access the spark plugs and the ignition wires to do the tune up myself. Do i have to access the engine compartment thru the wheel well?

Ozy's got the idea. That is the way to do it from the top. You may need a few extensions to get the length right, the spark plug holes are really close to the frame rails.

I knew a guy at the dealer who did spark plugs from the bottom with a 1/4" air ratchet, a small extension and a universal joint. It worked perfectly every time, he could swap a set in under a minute.

No. open the hood and the coil is dead center of the engine on top.You can unplug spark plug wires there .next remove windshield washer tank on drivers side and take off 2 hoses and 2 washer pump connectors. Now you can take plug wires off and change those 2 plugs. On passenger side, remove air intake and aircleaner box and then you can change those plugs. Use some spray silicone when reinstalling or replacing plug wires. If you car is california or mass emissions it is a LEV car and plugs are platinum. If you dont see a fuel filter on the drivers front strut tower by the brke master cylinder than it has platinum plugs.

that would have been the older 2.5 engine with the quad cams and plugs where in sideways.those were definetly easier to do and an experianced tech could do those in a matter of minutes
