Record everything you spend for 2 months, then create a budget from that. I'm just starting this and already I'm starting to scale down because I'm seeing how much I'm actually spending. Once you have 2 months, then you can see what you've spent, what you can cut, and make a budget that's reality based, not ideal based, which would probably end up as something you can't keep. Then, stick to your budget!

Lock your credit cards away. Don't buy something just because you "want it." Buy only what you need. Always be aware that what you spend has to be paid for in time spent at work. Equate a purchase to how many hours it will take (after taxes) to pay for it. Think about a purchase before you make it.
I buy everything on credit cards; I never carry cash. If there's cash in my pocket, it gets spent. Using only credit cards causes me to think for the few minutes it takes to make a credit sale and I usually pull back. I've been buying things in this way for more than ten years and I'm very solvent.

Stop spending money for unnecessary things. Pay your bills on time. Pay more than the reqired amount on credit card balances. Set aside a percent for your future.

Don't.. one person can not control another. Best to find out now you have issues with his antic's.. not after your settled...
Control is for animals, dogs, horses, .. people you can ask them to fall under your control.. but best leave that to their want to be controlled... let it go... plenty of fish in the sea....

Spend less than you make and make an automatic contribution to savings on each payday - pay yourself first. Destroy all credit cards.
