IT was an asteroid.
It would be similar to what happened 65 million years ago. There would have been a cataclysmic explosion, blasting massive clouds of dust into the atmosphere. If it had hit in the ocean, there would have been a massive tsunami, that would have rolled around the worlds oceans several times. There would be a massive fireball and everything within several hundred miles of the impact site would be incinerated.

Part of it would burn up on entry into the atmosphere but being as big as it was, (1/2 mile wide I think), enough of it would remain to cause cataclysmic upheaval such as greatly increased seismic activity, followed by worldwide tsunamis and a debris cloud that would block out the sun for about six months to a year. In short it would mean about 1/4 to 1/2 of the worlds population in casualties. I am not 100 percent sure of these figures, but I don't think I'm that far off.

Eons of years ago a similar event wiped out the towering dinasaurs from the surface of the earth. While this made the Descent of Man possible if only it had missed the earth by a hair breadth the dinasaurs would have evolved into homo sapiens.Western authoris have considered this possibility and also drew pictures of the Dino man that would have appeared. The question of man coming up would have been nipped in the bud. The same scenario would have repeated had the meteor collided with the earth. Man would have been wiped out in one stroke. There would not heen you asking this question and me repling to it.
