For sure. Even if he's performing well, he's not a captain if he can't inspire those around him to greatness as well. The best choice for captain isn't always the best player on the team, but the best leader.

I guess it was time...i mean he was captain for over half of his career with english football. However, beckham doesn't seem a captain type to me...i mean look at Figo he is obviously a captain type and beckham is kind of a popularity captain...i don't really think that he had the characteristics to be a good captain...even though he tried hard...but your right gerrard or terry will do the job just as well as beckham.

Actually England needs Beckham, he a extremely good player, but still there r some new stars 2 take over him, i think it was a good decision as it'll give England a chance 2 try some new player for da captainship.

Yes. He will not leave the British squad and can play for another WC. But he knows that England needs new fire and intensity to drive a team, something he knows he wasn't able to do. He was popular and had a raport with his teammates, but it wasn't enough, and he knows it. Hat off to you Bekham, for having the courage to do what you did. It's not easy to step down from a power position.
