It's dawn, and the sky is grey as always. I live in China in an unknown city of 9 million people. My view from this room isn't so bad. There is a small lake across the road from here, reserved only for party members, and though I can't really see much of it, I can see a small corner and the hotel that sits on it. Further up the road, across Friendship Street, is an open area with grass, and beyond that, a couple of new high rises. In front of all of this is the small red-bricked courtyard of my complex with its large, non-working fountain. It is flanked by the back side of an attractively designed hotel that has been promising to open for the last 6 years, and the one other apartment building. All in all, a pleasant view for my city.

Right here, out of the back window, I can see my back garden. Quite nice actually. It's all green with big fir trees at the top. It looks like children belong here(which they do, so that's good). I can see a big tent and the upturned paddling pool and a table. It is quite a nice evening too, oddly enough considering I am in England.I can also see part of my neighbours garden and a little bit of some houses. I can look out of my front window from here too but I can mostly see houses that way although I can also see the tops of some trees which are over in the fields behind the houses. No people, no traffic, I can't even see a car from here although there are cars in most of the street. In fact, I couldn't wish for a more pleasant view.

I see my trees, the place where I have bonfires, and the three stumps where I feed the deer at. The other window holds the bird feeder and there's a red squirrel in it right now. The front window holds the lake which is kind of choppy since it's windy outside and there's someone out there in a boat with the bright fluorescent orange on that is used in hunting season. Must be a man :) The wind is picking up and it's going to rain. I love it. Unrelenting peace.

It's now the evening of Independence Day in the U.S., and my window looks out over the southern part of Los Angeles. I have been watching fireworks exploding over dozens of parks in the distance. It's been going on for a couple of hours, and I'm only hearing sporadic pops and cracks, now. But there goes another pretty red one. The half-moon is visible, but the air is smoky/hazy and smells like gunpowder. Every year I wonder if the airplane passengers flying overhead can see the fireworks. I love that you're in such a different environment; it was too warm today and I always wish I lived somewhere cool. (I drove home from Las Vegas yesterday, and it was 115 degrees F in the desert.)

It's July 4th at 11:23 PM in Xenia, Ohio. The view from my kitchen window takes a little memory - since it's night time. It's raining (nice fireworks, huh), the tree right outside the window is dribbling water, there is my grapevine tree lit up (I like the twinklies) and I see my neighbor's house across the street - all prettied up in this nice summer season with flowers and bushes and a towering pine tree in his front yard, where I'm sure every bird in the neighborhood calls home. I rather like my view.

It's bright and warm sun in East Anglia today ... almost too warm at 8pm it is still 30°C (86°F)! They say it will be 93°F tomorrow. The sky has beautiful wisps of cirrus and a con trail heading your way!
In the street outside, cars go by from time to time, kids wander by in groups, noisy as ever. Thank goodness all the fuss and bother about the World Cup is over ... fewer drunks waking me up at all hours with shouting and singing. The trade at the Chinese over the road is steady but lazy ... nobody is in a rush today.

Its dusk now in Wales.I am looking out from my bedroom window over my green lawn and small stone terrace onto lush fields peppered by sheep. The land looks toward the sea so there are no mountains in the distance, just a very big luminous grey-blue sky. Its warm and a soft breeze is blowing ,my neighbour Brian ,the farmer ,just strolled by and waved .It is almost silent apart from the occasional bleating and the gentle rustling of leaves. My children are in bed and sleeping .People have lived in this house and on this land for over 500 years It has a warm, safe feeling of peace.

Looking across a cactus garden over the garden wall to the sea and the setting sun. Glass in hand, wearing shorts in 80 degrees F. Its the same nearly every day of the year here in the Canary Islands.
