Anybody out there who is desperate to give up smoking? Have been smoking 20 a day for the last 13 years and am absolutely sick of it- the smell, my health and the cost. Dont feel like you want to go to a support group? Want to do it on line? Want to use nicotine replacement therapy? Could support one another on line. Could set a quit date and go from there. Also anybody that has quit, if you have got any tips for giving up it would be much appreciated

I quit cold turkey after smoking for 7 years.

To start, I began lowering my smoking to once every 2 hours.

Then I began alternating inhaling the smoke like normal and taking puffs like a cigar. That way I wasn't getting as much nicotine.

I increased the amount of puffing vs. inhaling with each day until I was only puffing and rarely inhaling. Took about 2 weeks.

After that, my body and mind had been training to see smoking in a different light. All that puffing tasted nasty and the smoking wasn't enjoyable anymore.

Threw away my remaining cigarettes and never looked back.

Cold Turkey is the best way for most. It's painful, but the pain, craving, slowly decreases after a week. And the craving intervals happens less often, the longer you quit. I've quit smoking four times, from six months to four years Right now I smoke but don't have a desire to quit. I'll keep smoking until I want to quit. That's the best way to quit. The best way to quit for good, I haven't a clue..

I quit smoking in Jan 1997. First I stopped doing the things that cotributed to a smoke. Even staying away from friends who smoked. I stopped smoking in the house first, than I chnaged my commute pattern, stopped smoking in the car etc. When I cut down on the smoking I than substituted my cigs with "Altoids" the really strong mint...which took the craving of cigs away...I became addicted to altoids but better than a cig. I also started brushing my teeth more and using listerine.....try it.....You might substitute food for cigs....but just start going to the gym more for eating more. I did gain weight....but than I learned how to eat healthier. By the way if you are dating a guy/girl who smokes have them quit too, it is hard to quit when you significant other smokes. When you are at work and a break is on for the potty, do not go outside to the smokers go to the donut table and socialize with the non smokers. If you are living in CA you are in luck because smoking out here is restricted everywhere, restaruants, bars etc.....again stay away from smokers and anything that will contribute to you lighting one up. Also if you are around smokers who are somewhat jealous that you can do it...they will try to sabatoge your program...jealous because they are weak. I also want you to know it takes lot's of will power and strength because I could say quitting smoking was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life...I have not picked up a cig since I quit....I have had temptations but then I remember how difficult it was the first time. Quitting is just like anything else...SELF DISCIPLINE AND A DESIRE TO DO IT.....Look at folks who loose weight by exercising and eating sensible. Think of how healthy you will be, your skin will look nicer and you will not smell....I can go on and on....if you ever need help contact me.

The only sensible way to quit smoking - Easyway.
Anyone who wants to quit smoking needs to get an Allen Carr book, which is the only thing I have ever known to be successful, at VERY least it puts you in a pro-quitting state of mind rather than an anti-smoking frame of mind.
