Why are people so mean?

Why are people so mean to the drive-thru workers at fast food places? I worked at Jack in the Box and I was nice but the customers would go as far as throwing things at me. I was just wondering if anyone has ever been mean to an employee and why?

I'm sorry people treat you poorly, there is no excuse for that (understandable if you are rude first, which you stated you were nice, but even then understandable doesn't equal justifiable). People are self-centered, self-righteous and self-indulgent who have no manners or personal integrity. At least those who treat others the way you've described.

Just continue to be a good person and pity those who don't do the same. They wouldn't act that way if they liked themselves.

Yes some people are mean to the employees, I'll give you that, but why can't the employees shrug it off and be nice to the customer. I have been yelled at by the employee and when I asked them about it they said it was because someone was rude to them earlier. I guess it goes both ways.

No, I have complained occasionally when my order was missing something but was never mean about it because they always just replaced the whole order with no hassle at all. The problem is some people don't see people in service jobs as real human beings with families and feelings. They would be raising all kinds of cain if someone treated there relative like that though.

Ignorance does not pay well unless you look like Jessica Simpson. Stupidity leads to low budget, and you got it, if you work in their venues, that is what you deal with. But imagine being the girl at the country club serving with all the men who think they're better than you. Rich, poor, fast food, or 5-star venues, you will find people good and bad in all places.

i was workingin hsbc bank as a customer service rep. and some ppl were soo mean they used to hang up phones when u r still talking to them .. i never knew y .. if they were in employees place they wouldnt do it..
ppl dont understand that an employee has policy to follow and regulations ..

I try never to be mean to people. It's not in my nature. I wouldn't go out with a guy anymore because he was always rude to the waitress/waiter. I hated it. I waited tables for a long time and those people suck!

Becuase they don't care for niceness, they just want their food. And they want it quick. If they go through the drive thru, it means they are in a hurry, and don't want any bullsh*t from workers, even if your just trying to be nice. But who knows, maybe its cuz you live in USA(I'm asuming you do) Cuz up here in Canada, I watch the drive-thru every day, and every one is 'OHH!!!HELLOOOO!!!!HOW ARE YOOOUUUUUUUU???OOOOHHH!!!I'm fine THHHAAAAANNKKK YOUUUUUUU!!!heres your food!!!BYYYYYYYYEEEEEEE!!!"

usually it's the manager that hires some jerk and trains them to be a total asshole....
if i worked at a fast food restaurant then i would be nice anyway cuz i have very low self-esteem....

Because ppl are so bored with themselves so they have to find some kind of entertainment. Also, because, unfortunately, so ppl enjoy making others feel smaller or inferior, it's just human.
