Peer to Peer (P2P) is legal. Limewire is a P2P program and it is legal. No govt can stop you sharing your own work.
It is not legal for you to share, or download, anything to which you don't own copywrite.
If you are in a band and you write and play your own music, it is legal for you to share it and legal for other people to download it. But you cannopt legally share or download a cd from a shop.
You cannot share a programme, not even if you have a paid license; unless the license stipulates that you can do so (as with some Open Source software).
There is a myth that Kazaa and Limewire and the like are illegal; they are not. The biggest problem with them is that this is the easiest way to install a virus or trojan on your pc.
Always connect and download to a limited account, not the administrators account.
Always check the file extension; if you are downloading a sound, it should be .mp3 not .exe which is an executable program.
Always right click on the downloaded file and scan it with an anti virus and an anti trojan before you install it.
I recommend you install Avast! anti virus as it has real time P2P scanning.

Also install Ewido Anti trojan.

Limewire is NOT illegal. Downloading something, like a music file, that you are not licensed to have IS illegal! It's all about what you are downloading, not how.
Paying for Limewire PRO does NOT MAKE IT LEGAL!!!! Don't believe that sh*t.

The software itself is NOT illegal. How you use it determines that.
If you share copyrighted material (movies, software, games etc..) then you are using it for illegal purposes.
Also as a heads up, Limewire is infested with very nasty spyware.

Yes it is. But it's very good!
There's a getout clause for them to say that it's not for the illegal distribution of music. But the deal is if you download music without buying the copyright (when the music is not copyright free), you are breaking the law.

It's in the grey area in between because it depends what you use it for.
If you use it to get music then it's illegal, if you use it to get a backup copy of a game it's legal.
You'd have to check other things you can get from it and whether it's legal or not.

It is legal as long as you do not download copyrighted material. If it is copyrighted, then it may still be legal as long as you have bought the original, and are downloading for a backup copy.
