Because they wish to be accepted by others. They want to be loved and be accepted. This is where many eating disorders and several other mental disorders come from - the wish to be accepted by other people. It's really sad that the media is hugely to blame for this idea that 'image is everything' and that it doesn't focus on people's personalities and their well-being.

Because we live in a country where bigger is better, newer is best, cool is hip, etc.,etc.,etc.,. People are so paranoid about what others think about them, they try to be everything to everybody and when they can't, they retreat and figure they better quit. When you get my age, you are through trying to impress others and you work on taking care of yourself and your family. It's like a Christmas present...it doesn't matter how it's wrapped, you end up tossing the wrapping and keep what's on the inside. It's the most important and valuable. People fail to see what's on the inside and that it is more beautiful than the wrapping.

People are self consiuos because society has made us that way... They make us think that in order to fit in and be accepted we have to look a certain way, we have to dress, act and talk and everything else like them. And most of us are not like that and never will be... So that makes us consious of ourselves.. Worried that since we dont look or act like them then we willnot be accepted into society. Its a vicious thing society has put on us...

dose peopl who alwaz wants to b perfect in every sense are vary self concious coz dey dont want coz f any single mistake dey make,people get a chance 2 make fun f dem.so dey alwayz remain very self concious wt every thing dey do weathr it comes 2 d way dey eat ,d way dey get dressd up, d way dey walk, d way dey talk n everything. being self concious is gud as well as bad.it is gud coz u alwayz do effort 2 look alwaz bst n bad coz u r nt abl 2 become confident t wat u do.

i think one reason that people are selfconscious is because they arnt comfortable around people and when most people dont care what other people look like, but then again i have no room to talk bc sometimes i feel selfconscious bc i was told i was over weight and i only weigh 115
