I have an 88 GMC vandura van. When it starts up it idles high and wont kick down. also most times when driving it will shift, but it wont kick down. Any ideas?

Sounds like your electric choke cap is bad or not set properly. When the engine is cold the choke cap should close the butterfly in the carb. all the way. And when started and ran for a while it gradually opens up if properly adjusted.

try your pcv valve... its a quick an easy fix and is common for high idles.. it can be a number of things tho... make sure all your vaccuum tubing is intact... air filter is clean... when is the last time you had a tune up?

check the idle set screw..but don't mess with it. i'd say it's the electronic choke. make sure the connection on the carb is clean, and check fuses. i had problem with this on my edelbrock
