C++ will have it's place.
However Java will eventually dominate big business because of business reasons.
Java supports write once run anywhere better than c++.
As a build and release engineer I learned the various C++ run-time libraries are not portable across platforms. There have been huge compile time macros to fix platform dependent issues.
Java is a virtual computer, as long as the people writing the JVM properly implement all the functionality the java app should run regardless of the underlying hardware.
Business managers and investors really hate investing millions of dollars on a product that can only run on a single platform. When Java can take the OS and hardware out of the equation.

There isn't really a war. If you mean "which one will be used the most 20 years from now," the answer would probably be C++. C++ is a faster and slightly more versatile language. It can be a little harder to work with, but it allows more powerful operations than Java.
That is not to say Java will disappear completely. Java will instead evolve into a new portable language. There is still a lot to do to improve the concepts that Java excels at. There is less to do with C++, meaning that Java will be replaced by a new version sooner than C++.

What war?
Use the right tool for the right job. You won't be running device drivers written in Java, for example.
