To some extent it is, but the need to be unbiased and politically correct have stifled its freedom. I think it would be better (and create more jobs) to have a democratic newspaper AND a republican newspaper in every city. That way, both views are expressed, a person has more than one resource for the truth, and a journalist can speak the truth bluntly and say what he/she really thinks, without so much concern for political correctness.
