Soccer is not a dying sport at all. Recent polls by Sport Illustrated shows that the number of people who watch Soccer world wide is alteast 10 times than the american football (still dont know why they call it football, ridiculous). But so i dont think anyone should worry about american football taking over soccer, that might be the case in America, north America but not anywhere else.

For a start football (Soccer) is not a dying sport. The current ratings show that the viewing of the FIFA World Cup is up 22%, in Canada on 4 years ago. Also it is the largest registered sport in Canada. To be replaced by the boring sport of American or CFL football is unthinkable as there are so many sports that are better and more interesting.

I do not know where you heard this from, but I want whatever that person was sniffing. Soccer is too ingrained in the world. And as for a cheap sport to field it does that quite easy for a team that size. Unlike American football that can run into the hundreds of dollars for each player. Plus, most people in other nations do not have guys that fat on average. Soccer was here before American Football, and will be here long after wards.

Wow..................your intelligence baffles me! How can the most popular sport in the world, be a dying sport that will be eventually replaced by American football?..............which I might add is only popular in........ let me see.............America! There are billions of other people around the world who love football(it's not soccer) and the only way it can be replaced by American football would be if these billions of people and die and somehow America lived!

No, it isn't a dying sport, but one that is going through an identity crisis. The jogo bonito that gave soccer its mystique, the rivalry of jogo bonito of Latin America, France, Spain, and Portugal vs the tactical (either the E. European variant, the Central European variant, the Scandinavian variant, or the Italian Variant) has disappeared. The rivalries are in terms of teams, not styles.

If you look at the different leagues, their style and level of play does not reflect the mediocre, tactically dominated teams of this 2006 WC (but an improvement of 2002. The competition is better). Brazilian, Argentine, and Mexican soccer is not the same as the national team. Teams like these have turned their backs to traditional styles and have become Europeanized tactically (adopting a particular European variant as their tactical style).

The ones who set the trend were Bilardo (Argentina) and Pareira (Brazil), who felt that their national teams had to become European based and dominated to win and get results. Traditional styles had to succumb and play second fiddle. France, Spain, and Portugal, and England have followed suit (England under Sven looked like an Italian national team, not a British type team, like you see in the Premiere League.)

The jogo bonito has to revive, if not people will catch on and lose interest (and people have already caught on, seeing through the marketing glamour for the emptiness it is). Hopefully eliminating the offside will break the tactical tyrany and open up the game to individual flare and jogo bonito. But something has to be done. If international and WC soccer continues this way, I have promised myself to stop following it, because it doesnt have any flare. Thanks to Zidane who revived it against Brazil. Go Zizou!!!

No it will never be replaced by American football. Soccer is played by too many people in too many countries. It is easy for people in poorer countries and just any country to play soccer because all you need is a ball and four posts to play. While I do love American football (Go Broncos) it is to expensive to play for the people in lets Africa. Soccer is here to stay. Go Germany!!!!!!

Well, maybe if the football players used steroids like the american football (that should be called run-with-the-ball and not football) players, they could consider going into that steroids-based sport.

But since in football people don't need steroids (to catch up with the others), they will probably stick to the sport that requires skill and intelligence.

you're an idiot. Soccer is not a dying sport, go to another country and see for yourself. Soccer is on the rise in America and it is unbeaten anywhere else in the world. When 40 billion viewers tune in to watch the World Cup you know it isn't anywhere near dying.
