In the olympics, great britain is the country for soccer, but for the world cup it's England. Why not great britain?

All the above are partly right: Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England make up Great Britain and each have their own Football Associations. It would cost a lot of money to unite the teams. There is some talk of having a united GB team for the 1912 Olympics..................

Because if the countries that make up great britain stay seperate within Fifa, britain has Four votes at the meetings. That way they are guaranteed to get the biscuits they want.....

because in the world cup, there is an irish and a walish team... but I dunno why not in the olympics..
