This past weekend, the daughter of my fiancee fell very ill and has been hospitalized. When she is released from the hospital in about three days, we expect the bills to exceed $10,000.00. My fiancee has no medical insurance (she can't afford it), and doesn't make much money to begin with.

Are there any charitable organizations, or government agencies that she can go to for financial assistance? I fear the wieght of the medical debt will be crushing to her, and I can only help so much myself. We currently live in Chicago.

A few things.

* Charity Care application at the hospital
* Division of Temporary Assistance through your county.
* Even lookup Medicaid. also at the office through county or online.

ask the hospital about sponsorship, most teaching hospitals have a plan in place to help with the bills for ppl without insurance, also there is a law called the hill - burton act, that will provide free medical care, ask the social worker or some one in the billing dept at the hospital whats available in your area

Go see the social workers at the hospital. They can put you in touch with various charities that help with medical bills and or push thru emergency Medicaid - they have it just for this reason. Do this before she's discharged and they can help you better. If you wait until the bills go out, it'll be harder to get help.

Good luck!!!

You can go to the website. It will give you and your fiancee information about health care for children in Illinois.

She should try to get disability, or SSI. Sometimes that takes awhile, though, because they have to prove that you're legally disabled. Hope you find something, though.
