I have a two week old and the best method for us at this point has been to snuggly wrap him up in a blanket and then lay him on our chest where he can hear our heartbeat. We lightly rub his back and he's usually out within five minutes.

One of the things we had issues with initially was that he had never been laid down flat. They always had his bassinet slightly tilted in the hospital so when we tried to lay him flat in his crib at home, he would wake up and cry. We finally put two and two together and lifted the mattress slightly so his head was lifted and he was fine. We're in the process of slowly lowering the mattress to a flat position. He's doing well.

As a former Emergency Medical Technician, I'm scared stiff of putting him in bed with us. I've responded to way too many calls where an infant was suffocated either by the blankets or by a parent who accidentally rolled the baby too close into them. Also, it's much harder to get them use to sleeping on their own.

Good luck!

well every baby is very different but what has worked wonders with my 3 month old baby since about 2 months and half was that at night time I put her on a schedule of bathing her every night using the Bedtime wash and lotion from Johnson & Johnson and since i was breastfeeding i would wrap her up in warm clothing and lay her on the bed while breastfeeding. before I knew it she was sound asleep. started sleeping four to six hours a night, during the day it was much easier, but usally a bath always does the trick its like it sooths them and since they get sticky during the summer time the bath really refeshes them. try that and its all a matter of time as soon as they realize night time, but your newborn should be sleeping a lot from about day one to about three months. if not you should discuss with your doctor. GOOD LUCK and remember having a baby changes everything. I'm sure you will be able to work something out with you little precious one.

lay the baby on ur chest and hub his/her back always works for my son. or try rocking him/her. a newborn is easyer to get to sleep if he/she is held close by the mother or the father. i know from experience. i have 2 kids 14 monts old and 1 month old. and the 14 month old used to sleep on my chest when he was a newborn to get him to go to sleep so does my 1 month old son

Rocking works well
Make sure they are bundled snuggly
Singing anything soft and low will help calm them
If you are the mamma hold them near your heart and lungs so they can hear your heart and breathing
Better, snuggle up with the baby in bed and both of you go to sleep.

Have you tried wrapping the baby up snuggly in a recieving blanket. You will be tempted to let the baby sleep with you, but that's a really hard thing to break.

Nursing, by far!! It makes sure the baby is full. Sucking is relaxing. And human milk contains compounds that help a baby sleep. It will also help the *mother* fall asleep as the hormones she secretes will relax her.

I nursed mine to sleep, held them and rocked them and loved how beautiful they were and put them to bed when they were fighting sleep. Then I stood by the crib and runned their bellies and sang or spoke in soft voice.

Remember, always put babies to sleep on their backs to help prevent SIDS (cot death) and never let anyone smoke in your home.

Enjoy your tiny baby.
