All of sudden trany would not shift out of first to second unless got rolling down hill fast enough then would shift to second but acted like in neutral if let off gas (coasting). Then next time drove it, is shifting and running fine but with I think, a bit of noise. I was ready to haul it to the shop for rebuild but am wondering now if maybe there is a module or adjustment that could be going out or something?

try checking the fluid level in your tranny. if i'm not mistaken this is a standard shift. what is needed here is you need to get under it and find the fill bolt on the tranny..it's up high on the housing. remove the bolt, sick your finger in there and feel for the fluid level (not thr residual fluid on the side). if you don;t feel fluid, or it's pretty low, get the specific gear oil and add more. see if that fixes it. that's the cheapest way. if that doesn't fix this, then other more complicated problems are involved. if it's an automatic shift, check the fluid (dipstick under hood).
