The Nielsen Company has researched viewers habits for many years. They use a sampling of families all over the country and base their findings on those people.

TV companies do not own television programs, television networks like NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox own the programs. The Nielsen rating system determines how many people watch certain programs.

I've always wondered this! I think they take a cross section of the population and give them a receiver box that lets them know which channels they're watching and when etc. They can then statistically use the data to give an idea of the nations watching patterns.

Either that or they peek in your curtains at night!

Some people participate in market research. They get a box and everyone in that family has a special code. They key in the code and whatever they watch gets sent to a special place which notifys the tv channels... Its a bit complicated to understand.

Neilson boxes on their tvs that monitor what they watch. Also Nelison sends out a written survey shere you write down what you watch on tv for a week. We've done that one before.

There are a certain amount of people in the UK who have monitoring equipment installed. They monitor what they watch and multiply it up, the figures are only really estimates.

I know, its so freaky especially when they quote how many millions of people is watching a particular programme.
This just proves my point that the government know what we are doing in our house, there is no stupid privacy laws. they are just saying that to trick us but they are probably spying on us through everything electricity, phone lines, lights...........
