Most of the definitions above are correct but what is all this slavish adherence to political correctness.
A popular 'sport' in Australia is dwarf throwing and the dwarfs volunteer for their role in it.

A midget is a short person (under 4 foot 10 inches or so) with all body parts in proportion. A dwarf is also a short person, but some body parts are out of proportion.

There is a genetic dissorder known as "dwarfism". This is where the extremities; arms, legs, hands and feet fail to develop completely. This leaves this person with the appearance of an oversized head and thorax in comparison to the rest of their body.
A midget on the other hand simply appears to be small and generally underdevoped. They often look like small children whereas they could easily be adults. There have been cases of arrested growth due to some infantile disease which damaged the thyroid gland.

I'm not sure if dwarfs actually exist, but as a curious sideline to your question, I'm sure that I read somewhere that the offspring of a male and female midget will nearly always grow to a normal size!

A "dwarf" doesn't have all their body parts in proportion, whereas a "midget" does. However, I recall being told that they do not like being called those terms.

A midget is a small person, all parts are proportionate, a dwarf is not proportionate, sometimes with a normal sized torso but smaller limbs and heads.
Either way, they are both a great source of amusement!

A midget is a real person that will always be very short-a dwarf is a fantasy creature, that is like a midget, but judt doesn't exist. like Gimbley in Lord of the Rings.

Dwarf = a person that didnt grow to its fullest height and got stuck in the middle could be the cause of improper bone structure
midget = a mini guy. from birth this human will only grow afew feet then stop

Dwarves are out of proportion, their heads usually appear to be large compared to the rest of them.
Midgets are in proportion, and are just smaller than average.
