no way. Builds your problem solving skills. Go to zone.com or something. Just don't join the chess club. THAT is geeky.

Ha! Sounds as if you are interested in some guy that enjoys chess.
Chess is a very analytical game. It's the only game I've found that relies on complete skill.
Chess teaches Patience!
Chess improves critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
It teaches that there are consequences for
actions and from that it reinforces lessons of responsibility.
It helps lengthen attention spans and forces concentration.
Chess is not an academic subject, yet chess players become better students.
Here's an interesting article: http://gradda.home.isp-direct.com/su94brot.html
I don't call it geeky. I'm a average guy who's played guitar and drums most of my 45 yrs. of life. Love too ride motorcycles. On my 3rd marriage. Have 3 kid's. Boxed as a kid. Love football and basketball. A true red Razorback fan.
Have probably played somewhere between 20,000 game of chess in my life.
If most of what I've mentioned sounds geeky to you then chess must be a geeky thing. However, in my eye's it's most certainly not a geeky thing!
In defense of chess the USCF rest!

h ell no! Chess is fun and makes you better at problem solving. The only reason it would be "geeky" is because most of the "cool" people can't play it!!

No. It takes intelligence, and strategy to play chess. Most people label people that play chess, as geeks, but that's not true. It's just stereo-typing.

Nope. All the chess players at my school are awesome... not the typical "geek" that you'd normally think of when you hear the word "chess."
