"Shadow boxing" is practice boxing against an imaginary opponent. The boxer moves around, throws puches, covers, blocks, and ducks as if a real opponent were fighting him.
In a broader sense, it can be used for any type of practice, or fighting against a non-existent opponent.

Its a training techniqe where you stand facing a wall with a light behind you and throw punches. Try to improve your speed by being faster than your shadow, and dodge the punches its throwing at you.
Yes, it looks as silly as it sounds.
