It depends on the model, year and engine and drive train, they can range from about $20,000 all the way up to $175,000 and higher... and I'm in Canada so that would be Canadian money.

2003 Platinum E320, loaded in and out. My payment is $500, my insurance is $1400 annually and I am 30 years old with perfect driving record. I lease so I am required to carry a bit more insurance.

Under warranty repairs are free, but new tires ( 2- $450), replace air filter $200, premiuim gas makes a fill up around $65.

I am the happiest person you will find on the road, stuck in traffice or flying I have a big smile on my face. I get more compliments on the Mercedes, then on a Navigator, or new convertable XKR Jaguar I drive on occassion. Those 2 autos are in the shop with problems every 6 months, my Mercedes has only been in for oil change and it is the oldest of the 3 cars.

I bought my 1982 300SD Turbo Diesel with 260K miles for $6,000. I have owned it for three years, put about 45,000 miles on it, and was offered $10,000 for it last month (I declined).
The in-line five cylinder diesel in this car has been known to last for a MILLION miles (which is why there are six digits - as well as tenths - on the odometer). I thought it was a big deal when I passed 300,000 miles, but that only gets me the "level two" club badge.
Insurance is only $250/year. Upkeep has been pretty expensive - I have put $3,000 into repairs and improvements over the past three years ... new paint, new oil lines, a/c controller, etc. -- say a grand a year.
The best thing about these old Mercedes-Benzes is that the styles stay current. People look at my car and say, "Nice Mercedes." Unless they are very knowledgeable, they almost never say, "Nice old car."
I think I'll keep it for another 200,000 miles or so.

I bought my Mercedes SLK cash, extended warranty, 5 disk changer and LOJACK through Autobytel on line for the invoice price the dealer paid. They delivered it to my home on a flat-bed tow truck for my husband's 50th birthday.

Whatever type of Mercedes you intend to buy, Autobytel is the way to go because you will pay the lowest possible price. I also recommend getting the Consumer Reports invoice prices for options. Insurance is expensive where I live in SoCal and I have full coverage. Upkeep depends upon whether you take it to the dealer for service or another Mercedes repair shop. But, expect to pay between $350-600 each time it requires service. It is really hard to answer your question, because a lot depends on which model you want, where you live, the kind of insurance coverage you want, whether you buy the extended warranty, etc.
